School Re-opens..

Greetings!!!

As scheduled the school was re-opened on 2nd June 2014. We had 15 new admissions this year in first standard out of 16 kids in Kurungulam, Thepakudi & Vadhandur. This is because of the proactive approcach done my Mrs. Mangalachelvi and her team canvasing the villagers that the PUM school is better than private schools.

As per the order from Hon. Chief Minister, Uniforms, Notebooks, School bags & Slippers were provided to the students on day 1 for this academic year . This is significant and will help the children to prepare without any delay.

June 9th - 13th 2014  is celebrated as RWH week to create awareness on Rain Water Harvesting. Campaigns, rallies, competitions to be conducted by the government.

On the Corpus Fund Scheme (Kalvipuravalar thittam), for the year 2013-14 we had Rs.58,000/-  as FD and cash in hand was Rs.3000/-. During June-14  we collected Rs.7000/- and the fund is deposited as FD with which we have Rs.68,000/- as FD. I want to highlight that we had a contribution from Moritz  an Italian who    visited Kurungulam, who was part of the Dhwani Dance Group participated in the dance program in Thiruvarur during Sivarathri festival.

We now need to target for Rs.2.5 lakhs for this year. I request you to approach your near & dear and do the campaign to accompolish the target for this year.

Sports day is planned during Mid of July-14 and the prize distributions will be done along with Independence day celebrations. Need volunteers ....

As always need your support and contribution for the noble cause....

Annual day competitions :2013-2014

Hello All,
Greetings!!!

Annual day competions for the year 2013-2014 was held on 16th & 17th Jan 2014. The students were catogorized as 3 groups. Group-1 with I-III standards, Gorup-2 with IV & V standards and Group-3 with VI - VIII standards. Singing, Drawing, Story telling, Essay writing, Oratorical & Kolam competions were conducted.

The children had utilized their pongal holidays towards the preparation and fully charged to showcase their skillsets. This time the Essay and Oratorical topics were not from their curriculam but on  generic topics to ignite the search or thirst for learning.

The topics for essay writing were:
  • பொருளாதாரம் (Poruladharam)
  • சமுதாய வளர்ச்சியில் மாணவர் பங்கு (Samudaya Valarchiyil Manavar Pangu)
  • பெண்மையை போற்றுவோம் (Penmayai Potruvom)
The topics for oratorical were:
  • எரிசக்தி சேமிப்பு  (Yerisakthi Semipu)
  • நாளைய இந்தியா  (Nallaya India)
  • பசுமை இந்தியா  (Pasumai India)
  • என்னால் முடியம்  (Yennal Mudiyum)
While discussing with the HM, we met few parents and understood that the students had spent lot of time, done hard work to collect data points, discussed with many people on the topics and had also searched in the library. Each essay or Oration was unique and the points were not repeated. It was really very difficult for us to assess and announce the winners.

This time we had participation from the public also. Rajalakshmi & Saravana Babu helped us in the competitions.

Most challenging part was, to come out with winners for Vth standard for the drawing competition. There were 8 participants, each drawing was wonderful that it was difficult to assess and eliminate. At last it was decided to choose all 8 participants as winners.

For Group-3, this time Kolam competition was conducted instead of drawing. This was decided as group event to highlight about teamwork with collaborative effort and co-ordination.  8 teams with 2 participants in each team were nominated. It was a surprise to see 2 teams with boys giving tough competitions to the girls.
