JRC activities

Hello All,
Greetings !!!
In one of my earlier post, I had mentioned that one of the staff was trained in JRC( Juniour Red Cross) and have started the JRC wing. The wing is fully functional and have started their activities.

Thanks to Sri. K. Chandrasekar for sponsoring the white uniforms for the JRC wing. 6th and 7th standard students have enrolled for JRC.

The JRC wing celebrated International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on 25th November 2013. There was a small procession by the students and staffs to create awareness on violence against women. I am sure that this small spark will keep igniting and will bring the change.

கல்விப்புரவலர்கள் தேவை

Hello All,

Few more updates on the school front.

  • Thanks to Sri. Jayakanthan (S/o Sri. Sivaprakasam)  for coming forward to repair the girls toilet. The estimation is around Rs.12,000/ to Rs.15,000/-
  • Belts and Ties were distributed to the children sponsored by Sri Dharma Sastha Charitable Trust. Thanks to Sri. V.Seetharaman.
  • Parent teacher's meeting was held on 21-Sep-2013. The HM Srimathi. Mangalachelvi summarised the updates and requested the public to enrol and contribute for the கல்விப்புரவலர்கள் scheme. So far there are 22 members enrolled and contributed Rs.1000/- each. This amount is deposited in the bank as fixed deposit and the interest is used to purchase gifts for the students and distributed during the annual day celebrations. Let's join hands and contribute Rs.1000/- per family towards this scheme by which the students will be benefited.

  • First Muslim student to get admitted from the next village Kollapuram. Though there is a primary school at Kollapuram, the parent thought the facilities in our school is better than that school. This is a very positive sign and no doubt that our school will soon get a  High school status.
  • As per the the new G.O., the school can be uplifted as English medium, if there are 20+ students in the first standard. So let's target this during the academic year 2015-2016. This can be achieved only with your constant support and other initiatives by which the villagers should feel that our school is better than any other school in the nearby villages.
  • One of the staff got trained on JRC (Junior Red Cross). The school will have a JRC team, getting involved in welfare activities of the village.

Photographs of Outreach program 2011-2012

67th Independence Day Celebrations @ PUM school, Kurungulam.

Hello All,

Greetings!!!

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

― Nelson Mandela

As per the above quote by Nelson Mandela, we are in the process of developing the children of Panchayat Union Middle School at Kurungulam.

Last Year (2011-2012) with the help of Cognizant’s Outreach Program called “You Can Help A School Initiative” we were able to set up a library with 425+ books.

A talent hunt activity was conducted to bring out the hidden talents of the school children. Several activities like Storytelling, Singing, Drawing, Essay writing etc., were conducted. The winners were awarded with Cash awards, Prizes and Certificates 26th Jan 2013. The prizes were distributed by our beloved Mani Anna and a beautiful speech on Dr.Abdul Kalam was unforgettable.  Seeing the response for this program which was the first of its kind program being held in our village we decided to hold such events in future.
This year during April  2013, we conducted similar competitions and prizes will be distributed during the 67th Independence Day Celebrations for the winners.

We have plans to conduct such competitions and sport’s day events every year to motivate and uplift the skills of the children and staffs.  By conducting such events, the talents of these children are brought out which gives them enormous confidence to themselves. In turn these events improve them socially, culturally and morally.

Please feel free to come out with your ideas, views and thoughts for the upliftment program.

Though it is a short notice, We expect all kurungulam folks to join us for this event and make it a great success, as this will greatly help to lift the morale of the children and staffs.
